Before starting your own blog, there should be a few things that you should know about blogging. Firstly, the definition of the term “blog” actually means WEB LOG. Since there are so many categories and forms of “blogging”, the most common type of blog would be the personal blog. It is the action of one person who expresses him or herself through making commentaries of their personal thoughts or opinions about whatsoever that may come in mind, and then posting those commentaries online for others to read and share their own opinions of the topic shared.
So now that we know what a blog is, keep note of the top 10 tips on my list, to ensure that your blog will be one worth reading.
1. Know what to write, and stick to the topic.
Decide on what you would like to write, and stick to it. Many beginner bloggers have a tendency to “stray” from what we initially started writing about. It’s not a crime to do as such, but be reminded that the readers are also reading your work, so they may or may not follow if you start off with one subject and end up talking about another subject altogether.
2. Use reliable information, not just stuff that you think you heard.
Research what you want to discuss. Having good information to back up your blogs is educational, and keeps the readers coming back for more.
3. Do not drag your point and their explanations, try to summarize if necessary.
Keeping the explanations short and simple, rather than lengthy, will allow the readers to absorb the information quickly.
4. Categories and sub-categories can be useful.
You can divide your topics into categories and sub-categories, if you believe that a break down of topics would give a clearer explanation of your topic.
5. Bullet-point the important information that you’d like your readers to keep in mind.
Bullet –point information is basically a quick list of the important information discussed, and easier to remember, especially for those who are just quickly scanning for the information they were looking for.
6. Structure your sentences and paragraphs, for easier reading.
Shorter sentences and paragraphs are easier on the eyes. Not everyone is up for reading thick long paragraphs from their usual busy day.
7. Be consistent with your style in writing.
Find a style of writing that is comfortable for you, and stick with it. Changing your style of writing often, may not have the same kind of feedback that you were initially looking for.
8. Use keywords so that your blog will be a lot easier to find.
Use keywords that will suit your blog, which people would most likely to also use when searching for information on the NET. Beware that the keywords chosen are not out of place from the topic of your blog either.
9. Make your title eye catching.
Eye catching titles will bring more attention to people opening and reading your blog, but remember to keep the title as realistic to your topic as possible. You do not want to mislead your readers either.
10. Spell check, proof read, and re-edit your work.
A good writer always double checks their work for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Proof reading and re-edit your work if you feel like you left out any additional information needed from the first copy, or cut out information that may not be relevant to the topic. Take the time to make necessary changes, rather than rushing with your work without caution. Readers are not interested in sloppy writing, so keep it clean and neat, and for sure, your readers will keep coming back, to see what else you have in store.
Now that you have the basic guidelines and tips that will help you come up with a successful blog, happy blogging!
