SEO Tip : Build Links On Forums

by BloggingSetup on January 26, 2010

Before blogs were even conceptualized, forums have been a great hang-out place for onliners. Forums have proven to be a great platform for exchanges of ideas and a venue for discussing timely issues. For a long time, forums have proven to be a valuable source of information. Moreover, forums have long been used by SEO specialists to build links.

Forums are loitered by people looking for answers. And so they create threads. These threads give you the chance to resolve their questions by answering them with a link to your source. This is why it is suggested that you join forums relevant to your blog or website’s topic so that you can use your posts as answers and credit them with a link. Doing this helps you accomplish three things:

Forums

  • You build links to your website or blog.
  • You effectively drive traffic to your website or blog.
  • You build relationship to those you help.

If linking from within a thread is not allowed by the forum moderators, I’m sure they would allow you to use a signature. You can then use your signature to link to your website or blog. Here are some useful tips to maximize the benefits of joining a forum and using a signature.

  • Use a descriptive anchor text on your signature.
  • Include a brief description in your signature.
  • If multiple links are allowed, don’t use more than 3 because your links would look spammy and would discourage anyone from clicking on them.
  • Use styling if available. Put some colors on your links or make the anchor text bold and bigger.
  • Maximize the exposure of your signature by actively participating on the forum.
  • Build authority by focusing on a particular topic, ideally your blog niche.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, read the terms of use or service and make sure you don’t violate them to avoid getting banned and wasting your time and efforts.
