Communication! Sharing ideas and opinions are the passion of the seasoned blogger. More and more people are depending on social networking in order to spread their message and carve out their niche within the internet community. There are many schools of thought on the issue, but the bottom line is that the advantages of virtual networking far outweigh the disadvantages. People that are disciplined and successful bloggers know this and realize the potential of making use of specific social media.
Starting a blog is not extremely difficult but it does require time, dedication, and a little savvy internet know-how. Joining sites such as Facebook and Twitter gives people, especially those wanting to create an online identity, the opportunity to meet others of like mind and desire. There are always going to be trolls and you will find them all over the internet, but do not let that deter you from the ultimate goal.

While it is clear that becoming a member of the growing communities of people seeking to connect and share information is advantageous, it is just as clear that it is necessary to play it smart. Keep in mind that social media sites are normally tailored towards a specific genre, topic, or lifestyle. Here are a few tips that will make any journey into marketing your blog more enjoyable and productive.
1. Pick sites that are a match to your blog and leave the others alone. Spending three months circulating posts with a group that has no interest or common link with you wastes your time and takes you further from meeting your goal.
2. Choose networks that are age specific to your ideas. Yes, it is possible to market yourself and your blog to people that are outside of your target audience. But, let’s be honest, the possibility of gaining a real steady following from people that are not members of your target group is low and the work involved is intensive. Staying within your target audience, or at the very least limiting it to a specific range will gain you more success in your search.
3. Take advantage of profiles. Make them interesting to read. Make sure that you include backlinks to your blogs and articles. Include interesting quirky facts about yourself that makes you real to readers. This will hook them and make them more interested in what it is that you have to say.
4. One of the most important things you can do is limit the number of social media that you join. Keep it simple. Being able to actually build a relationship is the goal. It is impossible to do this if your focus is split between 10 or 12 networks. It can be overwhelming to try to connect with too many people at once. Making meaningful thoughtful entries and profiles will carry a long way as opposed to simply joining every site that you come across and making a quick form type presence that can and will be forgotten as soon as the page disappears.
5. Most of all, keep it fun. After all, isn’t that the ultimate desire? Have fun and find success doing what it is that you love most.
Social networking makes it possible to cross paths with people that might not be available under normal circumstances. It is fun, exciting, and productive as long as it is done right. Start with one well researched social media group and work from there. Remember, the better people know you, the more they want to know. Focusing your energy will help you achieve the results that you so richly deserve and desire.
