Fake Or Authentic Google Page Rank?

by BloggingSetup on March 25, 2010

Google page rank is an important factor in the valuation of domain names. Domain name buyers in particular check the page rank of a domain name before they make any decision to purchase.

Domain names with higher page rank naturally have higher monetary value and are purchased at a higher price. But the sad reality is that hundreds if not thousands of domain names with fake page ranks are sold everyday. Most of those who fall victims are the newbies in the online business who don’t know how to check and verify the authenticity of a domain’s page rank.

When checking for the Google page rank of a domain name, it’s not enough to settle for any Page Rank Checker. Page rank checkers are normally incapable of detecting whether the page rank is authentic or fake. You can opt to install the Google Toolbar in your web browser for a quick page rank check, however, Google Toolbar is not fake-proof. Tech savvy scumbags selling domain names with fake page ranks have tons of tricks to get around the system.

The best method I would recommend is to use the different Google command, specifically, the “LINK” and “INFO” commands.

Check Domain Name’s Backlinks

One simple way to verify the authenticity of a Google page rank is to check how many backlinks the domain name has. If a site has no (or very few) backlinks, then it should not have a high page rank. To check the backlinks using Google, simply key-in “link:www.domainname.com” in the Google search box then hit enter. The result will tell you how many links are pointed to the domain name in question. When you use a regular Google Page Rank Checker, you get a PR of 5 for the domain name www.bloggingmix.com but what’s intriguing is that it only has 157 links inbound links.

Domain Name’s Google Info

Probably, the best and the most reliable method to verify the authenticity of a domain name’s page rank is to use the “info” operator of Google. All you need to do is key-in “info:www.domainname.com” in the Google search box then hit enter. The page rank is fake if the result shows a different website from the domain you are searching. Take a look at the image below. We keyed in “info:www.bloggingmix.com” but the result shows a different website, in this case; whydowork.com.

There are other tools that allows you to check whether a domain’s page rank is fake or authentic but I would recommend you stick to the methods above for the simple reason potential glitches could be taken advantage by scumbag “domaineerers”.

Any other tips you wanna share on verifying the page rank of a domain name? Please share them in the comment. Thank you.
